Economic evaluation of the Marine Protected Area in Saint Martin Island in order to identify the impacts of this MPA on different economy activities of the island

In 2010, the Marine Protected Area in Saint Martin Island produced benefits between 780 k€ and 1.6 M€. The main beneficiary sector was the tourism (70%) with 50.000 visitors each year. Another benefit is the coastal protection by coral reefs which avoid each year damages on the littoral (estimated between 2 and 4 M€). Lastly, the economic impact of the MPA on fisheries is weak due to a low fishing effort around the MPA.
